Helsinki-Vantaa terminal extension ready to offer passengers new experiences
The Helsinki-Vantaa Airport terminal extension opens for the use of long-haul flight passengers on 11 December 2009. At the same time, the Via Lounge and Via Spa will open their doors. The three-storey terminal extension offers, in addition to the My City Helsinki restaurant world and a wide range of retail outlets, a unique spa plus a new baggage handling system representing the latest technology.
"Planning of the terminal extension has focused on experiential services and travel efficiency, and a high level of expertise has been the hallmark of its construction," says Finavia President & CEO Samuli Haapasalo.
A key objective of the Terminal 2 extension is to prepare for growth in transit passenger traffic between Asia and Europe. Asian traffic diversifies Helsinki-Vantaa's provision of direct European routes and increases the number of flights to the most popular destinations.
Following the opening of the extension, Helsinki-Vantaa will have eight jetways intended for wide-bodied aircraft. The new jetways will be able to accommodate Airbus A330-A340 and A350 aircraft. The two lowest floors of the three-storey terminal extension have been designated for baggage handling, bus gates and technical facilities.
Own brand "Helsinki Airport"
A distinctive brand identity has been created for Helsinki-Vantaa Airport to increase the airport's recognition and definition in international markets. A clear and consistent visual image is a key element of the brand structure.
The logo consists of the airport's English-language name and a curved graphic element, which casts a shadow below it. The brand promise is crystallised in the words "For smooth travelling".
"The promise communicates that Helsinki-Vantaa is dynamic, efficient and welcoming. It is a hospitable European airport, which passengers will happily visit again and again," says Finavia Marketing Director Kimmo Ruotsalainen.
The image will be used primarily in international marketing, and that's why the logo is Helsinki Airport. The names Helsinki-Vantaa lentoasema and Helsingfors-Vanda flygfältet will continue to be used in Finnish and Swedish texts respectively. The logo will be gradually introduced during 2010
